The Corsets are blues rock band from Toronto. I have been working directly with the band over the last few years to design everything from album covers to merchandise, and everything in between.
"Monta Sanica" - EP Cover Design
Final Cover Design
The band returned from recording in Los Angeles in the early fall of 2015, and were excited to start creating visuals for the new record.
My initial ideas for the album cover always involved using water as the main visual element. Thematically, I wanted to convey the feeling of finally reaching the end of a tough, but enlightened journey.
The overall design is quite modern in it's simplicity and clean lines, but I wanted it to evoke both classic rock covers and DIY punk posters of the past.
Singles and Posters
Driving Away: This image of the band was sent out to various media outlets. At the same time, the band was going to release a second single. I wanted to use the same image for both, to create some brand consistently.
Shoe Shine Boy Single: A punk rock song about the struggles of working as a shoe shine boy? This cover basically designed itself.
Horseshoe Tavern Poster: This poster was going to be posted up around the city, so I wanted a design that could speak to new and old fans alike. I mixed the colour palette of the upcoming record, and combined it with the band's logo.
Reworked Singles: The band reworked two older songs, and wanted to release them prior to the release of their new EP. I created this image to give the songs their own story, while still referencing some of the visual language of the upcoming record.
Stage Show Video Experiements
The band wanted to find a way of making their live show more interesting, on a limited budget. I came up with an idea to create videos, tailored to each song, that could be projected over the band using a simple projector. Inspired by the bands influence of blues, and the music's history of taking what's come before and reusing it, I decided to focus on using video only available in the public domain. Knowing that storytelling was not the intent, I tried to give each video it's own unique visual texture by utilizing various low-budget techniques.
